Heartland Family Medicine

Quality healthcare, close to home

In 1951 the Alma Memorial Hospital opened in a two-story house donated by the Haskell family in Alma, Nebraska. When a new hospital was constructed in 1969, the Alma Medical Clinic moved from its downtown Alma location to a new building adjacent to the hospital. The Alma Medical Clinic became part of Harlan County Health System in 1989, and was sold to Family Medical Specialties of Holdrege in 1999. In the summer of 2006, Anton J. Smolik, M.D., who had been the lead physician at the facility, purchased both the clinic in Alma and the clinic in nearby Oxford which was also owned by Family Medical Specialties.

Today, both clinics operate under the name Heartland Family Medicine. General family practice medicine is offered for children, adults and seniors, and both facilities are equipped with modern technology and information systems.

Heartland Family Medicine’s mission is to provide the highest quality medical services in a personal, caring environment — hometown healthcare. HFM carries out this mission with high ethical standards and sound business management that allows them to offer both efficient service and affordable rates for all patients. Accepting most medical insurance plans and emphasizing preventive medicine and wellness, Heartland Family Medicine is always patient-friendly.
