Harlan County health System

Heartland Family Medicine is pleased to refer patients to Alma’s Harlan County Health System for care. Harlan County Health System is a 25-bed critical access hospital featuring a full range of short-term acute, skilled swing bed, emergency and outpatient services. Harlan County Health System recently underwent a $6 million addition and renovation project, enhancing its diagnostic, emergency, and acute care capabilities.

The Health System has a full-service laboratory and X-ray department, along with CT scan, ultrasound, mammography, EKG, Holter monitoring, and vascular diagnostics. Rehabilitation services include Physical therapy, Occupational therapy, and Speech therapy. The Health System performs endoscopic procedures as well as cataract surgeries and is equipped to perform general surgery as well. Visiting specialists travel to the Health System regularly to provide cardiology, urology, podiatry, ophthalmology, and orthotic services.

The Health System utilizes an interactive television system that makes it possible for practitioners to consult with specialists in metropolitan hospitals in real time, while constantly transmitting vital signs and other patient information.

Emergency transportation for the Health System is provided by a licensed ambulance service as well as Good Samaritan Air Care in Kearney, which provides helicopter transportation to a Level II Trauma Center just miles away.
